April’s featured Business of the Month at ndnoando.com is Nizhoni Lee!
Nizhoni Lee is owned by Kimberly Lee who offers leather accessories for diverse beauties.
Lee comes from generations of artists. She grew up in Black Mesa, Arizona which is located on the northeastern part of the Diné (Navajo) Nation. She is from the Diné (Navajo) tribe. Her clans are Lok’aa’dine’e (Reed People Clan) born for Kinlichii’nii (The Red House People Clan), her maternal grandfather’s clan is Tachii’nii (Red Running into Water People Clan), and her paternal grandfather’s clan is Ashiihi (Salt People Clan). At an early age she learned two lessons that impacted her outlook on the world around her: 1. the importance of art being essential to livelihood, 2. being resourceful. Growing up she would watch her mother create jewelry with seed beads. Her Father carved sculptures from alabaster. Her parent's encouragement of experimenting with different forms of medium led her to learning a variety of crafts.
“I believe that everyone is given natural talent so they can give back to the world. Handcrafting leather jewelry is my way of giving back to the world. My jewelry is inspired by Navajo Rug textiles and colors found in nature". -Kimberly Lee
